Community Update - May 22

Thank you for partnering with us in your child's education.  We recognize that our families are busy, we'll be providing a summary of relevant information every two weeks to help.  Here are some items that you may have missed:

  • For all FSD Students Kindergarten to Grade 12:
    • Final Learning Plans sent home (For two week period): Monday, June 8
    • Final Day of Learning and Assessments: Friday, June 19
    • Learner Profiles sent home: Wednesday, June 24 & Thursday, June 25
  • Highlights from our May 6, 2020 Board Meeting are now available.
  • The Foothills School Division School Relaunch webpage is now live.  This page will be the source of all information related to our work on a 2020-21 school relaunch plans.
  • Alberta Education provided an update on student learning and school relaunch engagement.
  • Canada Emergency Student Benefit Applications opened May 15.
  • Please continue having conversations about digital citizenship with your children.  We highly recommend that students, when participating or working in a digital environment, do so in a common, open space location in their home. Please see a list of resources to support with facilitating digital citizenship discussions:
  • Overcoming challenges is in the ordinary, day to day practices of the great people in the Foothills. Despite any adversity we may face, we are a RESILIENT and courageous community! Let’s empower each other to build resilience by sharing what we do to help us bounce forward! Post your stories and photos on our social media using #FoothillsStrong 
  • Foothills Emergency Services Program, brought to students by the High River Fire Department, is an excellent way to earn credits while developing skills related to a variety of Health Services Occupations.

Our team of supports will be happy to discuss topics such as:  

  • how to cope and maintain routine during the pandemic
  • accessing community supports and resources
  • strategies to support yourself as a parent or your family

Kids Have Stress Too

An introduction to key aspects of early childhood and brain development, and the crucial role parents and professionals play in buffering the impact of stress on kids. Learn strategies to help young children become aware of and manage stress in fun and engaging ways.

 

Emotional Regulation Using Mindfulness

Are you finding it difficult to find balance in this challenging time? Explore how, for most of us, our survival responses (fight, flight or freeze) are currently going haywire. Learn how mindfulness practices can help to regulate your childs emotions, boost immunity, decrease anxieties, improve focus, concentration, and improve our overall sense of well-being. Participants will be invited through guided mindfulness activities during the session.
